Two of VisiVra’s more distinctive named ingredients have human research—but the details matter.

Bilberry extract

Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) is a berry rich in anthocyanins. A randomized double-blind placebo-controlled study published in 2015 enrolled visual-display-terminal workers with relatively lower baseline measures and used 480 mg/day of bilberry extract for eight weeks. The study reported improvement in some objective and subjective eye-fatigue measures, while other measures did not change.

That is useful ingredient-level evidence, but it is not a VisiVra trial. VisiVra’s public sales page does not state its bilberry dose or extract standardization, so no dose match can be claimed.

Astaxanthin

Astaxanthin is a carotenoid pigment. Small randomized trials have examined astaxanthin alone or in combinations with lutein and zeaxanthin for outcomes following visual-display-terminal work. A 2023 trial used 6 mg astaxanthin with 10 mg lutein and 2 mg zeaxanthin for eight weeks in healthy subjects and evaluated eye-hand coordination and smooth-pursuit eye movement after screen work.

Again, the main limitation is translation: VisiVra names astaxanthin but does not publicly state the amount on the sales page we reviewed.

What “promising” should mean

For these ingredients, “promising” means there are controlled human studies worth reading—not that every product containing the ingredient will generate the same result. Standardization, amount, population, duration and combination all matter.
